VOICE STUDIO - CURRENTLY KEEPING A WAITING LIST
I have been teaching private voice lessons for over 20 years. My approach to teaching involves helping my students develop a healthy vocal technique, which includes understanding basic vocal function and health, exercising and strengthening the full vocal range, practicing appropriate breathing and support,
and developing physical and aural awareness.
Everyone's voice is unique. My job is to guide students in exploring and understanding their individual instrument, and learning how to apply their technique to a variety of musical styles including (but not limited to) classical, musical theater, pop, rock, jazz and gospel/R&B.
I served on the voice faculty at UC Davis for three years, and taught privately in the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Areas. In 2008, I moved back to my hometown of Falls Church,
and have been teaching locally since then.
My pedagogical training includes undergraduate & graduate course work as well as a Level III Certification and post-certification courses in Somatic Voicework™ - The LoVetri Method. I also serve as an Associate Faculty member for The LoVetri Institute for Somatic Voicework™, in partnership with Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Performing Arts.
I am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and Music Teachers National Association/Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association (MTNA/NVMTA), which provide opportunities for professional development and continuing education as well as opportunities for students to participate in competitions/workshops.
In addition to singing, students can learn how to read music and
explore basic music theory or introductory piano.
Bharati Soman, soprano, lives in Falls Church, VA where she maintains a private voice studio. She holds a Bachelor of Music from James Madison University, and a Master of Music and Performer Diploma from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Bharati's students have won roles in school & community productions, have been accepted to District Chorus, All-VA Chorus, VA Senior Honors Choir, VA Governor's School,
and have received honors in various voice competitions including the Lions of Virginia Bland Music Scholarship Competition, Northern Virginia Music Teachers' Association competitions, and State & Regional NATS Student Auditions.
Her students have also been accepted to competitive summer programs and college music & theater programs including
NYU Tisch, James Madison University, Point Park University, Chicago College of Performing Arts, San Francisco Conservatory,
Ithaca College, Oklahoma City University, Elon University and Shenandoah Conservatory.
In addition to teaching, Bharati is an active performer.
